Image Movement : Photography and Cinema 2022
Sun 30 October 2022
What is the relationship between film and photography? One seems to be about stillness and composition, and the other about movement and montage. Both deal with time, truth, archive, and materiality in different ways. Taking place during the opening week of Photo Phnom Penh 2022, this two-part programme highlights short films and videos selected by Sam I-shan, that explore different aspects of the photographic image and process.

Nimman Film Festival Chiang Mai 2017
Sat 18 February 2017
About Emptiness will be screened at NImman Film Festival in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The theme of NIFF this year is "Lost & Found", with 4 sub-themes: Culture, Place, Spirit, and Freedom of Expression. The title "Lost & Found" is commonly used to refer to an office in a public building or area where people can go to retrieve lost articles that may have been found by others, usually found at airports, bus stations, schools and police station. Lost and Found in a broader meaning has to do with places, time and motion. In the last decade, the shifting of politics, economics, culture and mobile technology (network, information, and transportation) has been affected and created a new face of Asia.

77 Days: An Experience Report
Sat, 16 Mar 2024
77 Days: An Experience Report portrays Sissi Kaplan’s experience of isolation, as an international traveller, then as a patient confined in hospital rooms and her apartment. Even as her loneliness intersected with great personal loss, she concocted fantasies and performances, giving free rein to both memories and reverie. In the face of enforced and eternal separation, this story reflects the human desire for connection through acts of creation.
The book is available from this website and in selected book shops.

'Inflatables' featured in EXIT Magazine
Sat 1 Jul 2023
‘Inflatables’ is an ongoing photographic series of portraits of covered vehicles in different parts of the world. Under cover, the cars’ make and status symbols are equalised even as their distinct characters remain on display. Deprived of their functional mobility, these objects assert their mysterious presence in the public space. Their enveloping textiles are like skins that transmute their forms and subtly interact with the environment. They breathe, as if inhabited by a soul, the anima, inviting viewers to imagine phantasmagorical projections and observe movement in stillness.
